Ingredient Information
Scrutinizing the Ingredients
Typical products in this genre contain synthetics, silicone oils, propylene glycol, artificial fragrances and/or parabens for two to five times the cost. We are different. Many of our ingredients are also USDA Certified Organic, but not all, simply because natural ingredients such as vitamins can never be Certified Organic. We are Vegan friendly and no animals are used in the testing of our products.
Rose Distillate is used as a natural fragrant. It was used during Victorian times as a skin emollient. It softens, tones, and even has healing and restorative properties, especially on delicate and dehydrated skin.
Aloe Vera juice includes copper, manganese, silicone, minerals, calcium, potassium, vitamins B3, B1, B6, B2 and Vitamin C. It also has an astringent action and is beneficial for tightening the skin. The healing properties of aloe vera come from the 18 amino acids it contains. It is used to heal skin that has been damaged. A common usage is to sooth sunburned skin. Studies show that Aloe Vera improves the skin’s ability to hydrate itself, aids in the removal of dead skin cells and has an effective penetrating ability that helps transport healthy substances through the skin.
Kosher Vegetable Glycerin is used for the hygroscopic (water retention) capabilities and for viscosity boosting. As an emollient it makes the skin feel softer and smoother, reducing any rough feeling, cracking and irritation.
Dimethylaminoethanol (DMAE) is well known for anti-aging properties. Our DMAE is made from Tartaric Acid. The tartaric acid is from grapes. Read Dr. Nicholas Perricone’s Best Seller, The Wrinkle Cure, Unlock the Power of Cosmeceuticals for Supple, Youthful Skin. Dr. Perricone describes the benefits of products containing DMAE, Alpha Lipoic, Ester C and Vitamin E. Consumers are paying $95 to $250 for a 2 oz container of products using these ingredients. We provide a luxurious product more sensibly.
According to Dr. Perricone products containing DMAE, Alpha Lipoic Acid, Vitamin C Ester, Alpha Hydroxy Acids, Vitamin E and Retinol Vitamin A can create amazing results in the appearance of aging skin. DMAE is found in certain types of seafood and in human nerve tissue, DMAE is a naturally produced compound found in the brain. When applied it creates firming and toning of the skin with significant anti-inflammatory, anti-aging properties. Topically, it lifts and tones the skin. An intriguing finding in DMAE studies was that it reduced the accumulation of lipofuscin deposits inside cells. Lipofuscin is a cellular pigment consisting of aggregated chunks of molecular waste. It occurs in the cells of older people. It is likely that lipofuscin is not simply a byproduct of aging but also contributes to the aging process. Neurons, heart and skin of older people usually contain particularly large amounts of lipofiscin.
Emulsifying Wax NF is vegetable based, non-ionic, and is a staple ingredient in lotionmaking, combining oil and water.
Açai is a native palm from the Brazilian Amazonian region. The berry is rich in phytosterols, anthocyanins, essential fatty acids and vitamins. Phytosterols are components of plant cell membranes providing numerous benefits to the human body that acts in the cellular level regulating the balance and activity of the lipids in the superficial layer of the skin. The phytosterols are used in the treatment of dermatitis for stimulating the regeneration process. β-sitosterol, Stigmasterol and Campesterol are the phytosterols founded in Açai. Anthocyanins is the pigment in red grapes that gives wine its antioxidant value. Studies show that açai has 10x more antioxidants than red grapes. Açai is also a source of essential fatty acids such as linoleic acid, omega-6 and omega-9 that when applied to a cosmetic application promotes nutrition and a healthful aspect to the skin. Acai pulp is rich in Vitamins B, C and E. This berry has high levels of antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties and has been used topically for its astringent and antibacterial properties. It also helps regulate skin lipds.
Sunflower Seed Oil is extremely rich in vitamins A, C, D and E. Because it is so rich in vitamin E this natural oil is very soothing to several types of skin irritations including acne.. Sunflower oil is also very high in polyunsaturated fat. Next to sunflower, it is the highest – its fatty acid composition ranges between 64 and 68 percent. From a nutritional standpoint, this is desirable, because as mentioned earlier, polyunsaturates are the source of essential fatty acids necessary for the production of lipids. Lipids are a diverse group of compounds that have many key biological functions, such as structural components of cell membranes, energy storage sources and intermediates in signaling pathways.
Organic Bilberry Extract, Sugar Cane Extract and Sugar Maple Extract all help to reveal new skin cells and stimulate the production of collagen and elastin. The peeling action uncovers a fresh, luminous layer of skin. Sugar cane is also a source of natural AHAs.
Orange Fruit Extract and Lemon Extract are known for toning, cleansing and purifying properties as an astringent and good for oily skin. Alpha Hydroxy Acids gently remove dead skin and provide an added antioxidant. In our formula we use the gentle and natural form of AHA’s that occur in natural fruit extracts. By naturally removing the dead cells from the skin, AHA helps to arrest the aging process. All of these ingredients work as a synergetic blend to create an effective and wonderful serum.
Cranberry Extract helps restore radiance to all skin types. Cranberry Extract has significant levels of proanthocyanidins, with potential antibacterial and anti-oxidant components due to the compound Vacciniin, which inhibits bacterial adherence to cells, and is said to be very good for use in acne-prone regimens. Contains the anti-bacterial ingredient D-vacinniin, which also protects against viruses and fungus.
Vitamin E, where do we start?
First our source of Vitamin E is from Soy, which is Gluten-Free. As an antioxidant vitamin E is vital in protecting skin cells from ultra violet light, pollution, chemicals, and other elements that produce cell damaging free radicals.
The benefits of vitamin E for healthy skin care also include its ability to regulate vitamin A in the body, which itself is important for healthy skin.
It helps skin look younger by reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Also, free radicals are believed to play an important role in skin aging and therefore the antioxidant activity is quite valuable for this skin problem.
Vitamin E lotions provide some benefit in preventing and treating sunburns. These lotions protect the epidermis layer of the skin from early stages of ultra violet light damage. It must be applied about 20 minutes before sun exposure in order to allow the vitamin E to be absorbed deep into the epidermis layer. Our skin serum is NOT meant to be a sunscreen. We are merely describing the benefits of Vitamin E.
Other benefits of vitamin E for skin care are: helps reduce the appearance of stretch marks, prevents the appearance of age spots, maintains the skin’s oil balance during the cleansing process, reduces transepidermal water loss from skin and strengthens the skin’s barrier function.
Hyaluronic Acid (also called Hyaluronan) is a component of connective tissue whose function is to cushion and lubricate. Hyaluronan is a glucosoaminoglycan that is naturally present in the dermis in large quantities and which can bind up to 1000 times its own weight in water. It is what makes a baby’s skin so soft. As skin ages the levels of hyaluronan drop, leading to reduced skin firmness. Topically applied hyaluronan forms an air permeable layer and penetrates into the dermis, thus boosting the elasticity and hydration of the skin. The protective breathable barrier on the skin locks in moisture which gives the skin a youthful appearance. The cuticular layer of the skin normally contains 10-20% water, however as we age it can drop to below 10%. Hyaluronic acid is a key factor in allowing the skin to retain more water. Hyaluronic acid equilibrates moisture absorption based on the relative humidity in the air. It is the ideal ingredient in skin care products as it adjusts to the skin’s need for a moisturizing effect depending on the relative humidity of seasons and climate of an area. Hyaluronic acid also protects the epidermis by scavenging reactive oxygen species generated by ultra violet light which would normally cause sunspots. Hyaluronan is involved in tissue repair. When skin is excessively exposed to UVB rays, it becomes inflamed (sunburn) and the cells in the dermis stop producing as much hyaluronan, and increase the rate of its degradation.
The majority of the Hyaluronic Acid on the market today contains Phenonip and Water. A full disclosure of that ingredient list would be: Aqua (Water), Sodium Hyaluronate (Hyaluronic Acid), Phenoxyethanol, Methylparaben, Butylparaben, Ethylparaben, Propylparaben. Ours does not contain parabens preservatives. We do NOT include parabens!
Additionally, there are two forms of hyaloronic acid on the market: one from rooster combs and the other by fermentation in the lab. jeune d’âge organics contains only the vegan approved lab created version.
Vitamin C Ester is a form of skin-compatible Vitamin C. It is a powerful antioxidant that protects the skin from damage by free radicals, reducing lines, wrinkles and discoloration and results in an improvement in skin tone and texture. Is its also known to lighten melasma on the skin and protect it from harmful UVB rays. *The vitamin also stimulates the ability of the DNA to repair itself after damage.

Phenoxyethanol works as a topical antiseptic; it provides broad spectrum anti-microbial activity against bacteria, yeasts and molds. It is also a Paraben free preservative that does not release formaldehyde. Phenoxyethanol is an organic chemical compound, a glycol ether, derived from sage essential oil.
Meadowfoam is an herbaceous winter annual plant native to the Pacific Northwest. It is recognized for its outstanding oxidative stability. It is unique in that it contains over 98% fatty acids. Meadowfoam Seed Oil is said to moisturize the skin better than most oils, and it helps prevent moisture loss. Containing one of the most stable lipids known, Meadowfoam Seed Oil lends stability to other oils that are combined with it.
Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) or ubiquinone is essentially a vitamin or vitamin-like substance. CoQ10 is found in small amounts in a wide variety of foods and is synthesized in all tissues. Coenzyme Q10 is the coenzyme for at least three mitochondrial enzymes as well as enzymes in other parts of the cell. Oxidative mitochondrial enzymes are essential for the production of high-energy phosphate, adenosine triphosphate (ATP), upon which all cellular functions depend. The electron and proton transfer functions of the quinone ring are of fundamental importance to all life forms; ubiquinone in the mitochondria of animals. The enzyme production begins to decrease after the age of 20 along with its properties of energizing and protecting. It is believed by scientists that this enzyme has a key role in the aging process. CoQ10 is important for the health of cells and is particularly vital for the skin. It is an essential part of the cellular respiration system located in the mitochondria, and it is an antioxidant. CoQ10 stimulates collagen and tightens the elastin in the skin.
In most people over thirty, levels of CoQ10 in the skin is below optimum, resulting in a lesser ability to produce collagen, elastin and other important skin molecules. CoQ10-depleted skin may also be more prone to the damage by free radicals, which are particularly abundant with exposure of the skin to the elements. It stands to reason then that topically applied CoQ10 may boost skin repair and regeneration. Additionally, CoQ10 is a small molecule that can relatively easily penetrate into skin cells.
Because of its synergy with Vitamins C and E, it neutralizes free radicals thus reducing wrinkles and their development.
Beta Carotene (Pro Vitamin A) and Retinol Palmitate (Vitamin A) traps free radicals, and a few studies suggest that it may also reduce tumor development and skin cancer. It helps cells reproduce normally and aids in wound healing. Many have found relief from acne by applying serums, lotions and cremes containing Vitamin A. Vitamin A increases collagen absorption for the skin. Retinol Palmitate nourishes the skin and assists in the rejuvenation process that maintains a more youthful appearance. Increased collagen absorption and the ability to fight free radicals, Vitamin A packs a one-two punch!
Alpha Lipoic Acid, DL- Thioctic Acid is a fatty acid found naturally inside every cell in the body. It’s needed by the body to produce the energy for our body’s normal functions. Alpha lipoic acid converts glucose (blood sugar) into energy. Alpha-lipoic acid works together with other antioxidants, such as vitamins C and E. It directly recycles and extends the metabolic lifespans of vitamin C and Coenzyme Q10, and it indirectly renews vitamin E. It is important for growth, helps to prevent cell damage, and helps the body rid itself of harmful substances. alpha-lipoic acid is a metabolic antioxidant, able to draw on the cell’s own metabolism to magnify its protective effects and that of other antioxidants.
Alpha lipoic acid is also an antioxidant, a substance that neutralizes potentially harmful chemicals called free radicals. What makes alpha lipoic acid unique is that it functions in water and fat, unlike the more common antioxidants vitamins C and E, and it appears to be able to recycle antioxidants such as vitamin C and glutathione after they have been used up. Glutathione is an important antioxidant that helps the body eliminate potentially harmful substances. Alpha lipoic acid increases the formation of glutathione.
Vitamin B5 supplementation reduces water loss through the skin. This suggests that topical vitamin B5 is beneficial to improve the form and function of the skin.
• Dry skin stays supple and elastic for longer
• Anti-inflammatory and anti-itching effect
• Stimulates epithelization (skin regeneration)
• Small wounds, scratches and blisters heal better
Niacinamide is the biologically active form of niacin, Vitamin B3. Vitamin B3 increases the rate of skin exfoliation and increases moisture barrier repair. Studies have shown it to be useful in increasing synthesis of collagen and lipids, inhibiting the transfer of melanosomes and decreasing inflammation. “Already, topical 4% niacinamide has been shown to be beneficial in the treatment of papular and pustular acne in a 4% gel, as well as the improvement of skin cancer and its anti-tumor characteristics” (Dr. Draelos). SOURCE: American Academy of Dermatology. Niacinamide is an amazing antioxidant that works for aging and acne related issues. Niacinamide possesses collagen synthesis stimulating properties and helps rosacea patients with increased skin barrier function helping to diminish skin irritant reactions.
Carrot oil is cold pressed from the seed and is rich in beta carotene, vitamins A & E and provitamin A which helps heal dry, chapped, cracked skin. Carrot oil helps to balance the moisture in our skin and is also a natural ALA.
As a phospholipid, lecithin is both phosphorus and fats (lipids). It is an excellent source of essential fatty acids that are a part of each molecule. Because phospholipids are both fat loving (lipophilic) and water loving (hydrophilic), lecithin helps protect the cell’s essential fatty acids, which are polyunsaturated and extremely vulnerable to oxidation.
Xanthan Gum is produced by a process involving fermentation of glucose or sucrose by a bacteria found in plants. In cosmetics xanthan gum is used to prepare water gels. Is also used in oil-in-water emulsions to help stabilize the oil droplets against coalescence. It has some skin hydrating properties. One of the most remarkable properties of xanthan gum is its capability of producing a large increase in the viscosity of a liquid by adding a very small quantity of gum, on the order of one percent.
Tetrasodium EDTA is derived from sodium salts and is an antioxidant and chelating agent, enabling nutrients to absorb freely. EDTA is added to create a stable product, but it also pulls heavy metals from your skin when you apply the cosmetic. Because it also pulls minerals that exist in hard water from solution it allows for better cleansing properties of cosmetics. EDTA is widely used as an FDA approved treatment for lead and heavy metal poisoning. As is the case with some EDTA, there is absolutely NO formaldehyde used in the manufacture of EDTA found in our products.
Citric acid is a natural skin toner and and also a natural preservative for cosmetics. This vitamin C rich fruit acid is a powerful antioxidant agent. It protects the skin from the free radicals. Free radicals are responsible for accelerating the aging process of the skin. By stimulating collagen production, appearance of wrinkles is halted by citric acid. The mild bleaching action of citric acid is also beneficial for removing skin pigmentation and blemishes.
Nearly 5000 years ago Olive Oil quickly became an essential component of skin care. Ancient Egyptians, Greeks, Phoenicians, and Romans all took full advantage of this prized oil.
Olive oil for skin care will promote a smooth, radiant complexion and help maintain elasticity of skin. Olive oil is rich in antioxidants including vitamins A and E, polyphenols, phytosterols and avenasterol. They work to neutralize free radicals and repair cell membranes. A free radical is an unstable molecule created by exposure to things like cigarette smoke, pollution, alcohol and radiation.
A natural organic compound used in cosmetics as a moisturizer, Squalene is found in olive oil. Squalene helps to regulate sebum. Sebum is produced by the sebacious glands in our skin and is secreted through our pores. It forms a coating on the skin that acts as a barrier, inhibits the growth of micro-organisms and lubricates our skin and hair.
Also found in Olive Oil, Chlorophyll is a photosynthetic pigment. It is an anti-aging substance that promotes the healing of skin conditions and wounds.
Rooibos Tea is grown in a small area in South Africa – the Cederberg region. Rooibos tea is well known for having large amounts of antioxidants, even more than the popular green tea. Rooibos Tea is rich in many mineral contents such as iron, calcium, potassium, copper, fluoride, manganese, zinc, magnesium and alpha hydroxy. Minerals are needed to help activate vitamins. Rooibos contains polyphenols that has anti-inflammatory and anti-viral qualities.
Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) is an organic biological sulfur and a collagen builder. You find it in all plants and animals. There is no known toxic level of usage. Anyone who has ever bathed in a sulfur spring knows the amazing properties sulfur has for the skin. Sulfur is necessary for collagen synthesis. It is the dominant component of connective tissue. Sulfur operates as a synthesizer and activator with the B vitamins, thiamin, Vitamin C, biotin, and pantothenic acid, all of which are needed for metabolism and healthy nerves. If MSM supplies are depleted, the result may be dry, cracked, damaged and wrinkled skin.
Pomegranate is loaded with antioxidant phytoestrogens, polyphenols, essential amino acids, and a host of other beneficial ingredients. In a study carried out at the University of Michigan Medical School, pomegranate fractions were examined for effects on human epidermal and dermal cell function. Pomegranate seed oil was shown to stimulate epidermal cell proliferation, and a mild thickening of the epidermis was observed. In contrast, pomegranate peel extract stimulated type I pro-collagen synthesis by dermal fibroblasts. These results indicate the potential of pomegranate fractions for facilitating skin repair by promoting regeneration of the dermis and epidermis. *

The Green Papaya, Pineapple and papaya extracts have a gentle exfoliating property that will leave you skin looking clean and fresh. The enzymes in papaya fight free-radical damage and are known to reduce age spots and fine lines and leave the skin supple.
Coconut Oil is nature’s most abundant source of MCFAs or medium-chain triglycerides (MCT). MCTs are loaded with antimicrobial nutrients. Think of MCTs as bodyguards of your skin. Apart from enhancing the appearance of the skin, coconut oil is also useful in curing acne, wounds, rashes, burns and skin inflammation. The fatty acids in coconut oil act as natural antiseptics and can prevent bacterial and viral infection. The molecules are very small so it can nourish the skin deeper. Used continuously, the oil can remove the dead skin cells and strengthen connective tissues. This oil can protect you from the blemishes caused as a result of aging and sunlight exposure.
In 1934 University of Arizona chemists discovered that Jojoba was the only natural source of liquid wax esters, other than the sperm whale oil. Jojoba oil is not actually an oil it is the liquid wax produced in the seed of, a shrub, the Jojoba plant found in southern Arizona, southern California and northwestern Mexico. Native Americans have known the benefits of jojoba oil for some time. It has been used to help heal sores, cuts, bruises, sunburn as well as other wounds for many years. Jojoba oil is a good replacement for the natural waxes and oils produced by the body. With age the body produces less of this wax. This reduced production can result in a duller appearance of the skin that emphasizes wrinkles. Jojoba’s rapid absorption just deep enough into the skin’s surface layer provides all-day moisturizing that leaves the skin feeling soft and smooth. Jojoba oil is so similar to the waxes produced by human skin it can prevent the skin from becoming too oily.
Unlike natural oils produced by the body Jojoba oil contains other important nutrients, such as vitamin E, B complex vitamins, as well as the minerals silicon, chromium, copper, and zinc.
Vitamin B Complex is made up of:
Vitamin B1 is responsible for circulation and gives skin a healthy glow, and those on birth control may be deficient.

After using sea kelp regularly, most people notice a firmer, softer, more ‘conditioned’ silky feel to their skin.
Blue Green Algae (Aphanizomenon Flos Aquae, AFA) is a treasure trove of vitamins, minerals and nutrients. AFA contains a complete balance of vitamins except for vitamins “D” and “E”. AFA contains almost every organic mineral in trace amounts. Without minerals, vitamins have no function. Minerals help build all soft tissues.
Willowbark extract has excellent astringent qualities. Willowbark extract contains phenolic acids; such as salicin, salicortin, fragilin, populin, triandrin and vimalin, as well as flavonoids, tannins (gallotannins and catechin-type tannins) and minerals. It also contains salicylic acid, which stimulates new cell formation by helping the old skin to slough off.
The Dead Sea is said to be home of the first health retreat. The benefits of Dead Sea salt derive from the salt’s high concentration of at least 21 different, skin healthy minerals such as Magnesium, Potassium, and Calcium with only 10% sodium.
Polysorbate is derived from lauric acid, which is derived from coconuts. Polysorbates function as emulsifiers and also have mild surfactant properties.
Tea Tree Oil has a long history of traditional use starting with the Australian aboriginals. Leaves were used to make tea, hence the name. They also used tea tree leaves for healing skin cuts, burns, and infections by crushing the leaves and applying them to the affected area. Tea Tree contains a constituent called terpinen-4-ol that is thought to be responsible for most of tea tree oil’s antimicrobial activity. Tea tree oil is a known antifungal agent and is effective against multiple dermatophytes found on the skin. Tea tree oil has strong activity against Staphylococcus aureus(a common cause of staph infections) including MRSA. Common uses are:
- Acne
- Athlete’s foot
- Dandruff
- Thrush
- Periodontal disease

Green Tea provides skin elasticity through astringent and soothing actions. It contains 5-8 times more Vitamin C than lemons and tocopherol preventing the collection of melanin pigments and inhibits the formation of freckles and dark spots. It can be an anti-acne treatment with ingredients such as vitamin A and vitamin B2. The topical use of green tea promotes the health and quantity of collagen leading to firm and elastic skin.
Every home should have a jar of Shea Butter for smoother skin or for treatment of minor skin injuries. Shea butter can be used to treat various skin problems including dry skin, psoriasis, burns, blemishes, eczema, wrinkles and stretch marks.
Pumpkin contains more than 100 beneficial nutrients. It’s high in anti-oxidants, in particular beta carotene, a precursor to Vitamin A and an excellent free radical fighter. It’s also rich with Vitamins C and E, and several B vitamins and is high in potassium, magnesium, zinc, iron, and copper. To top it off protein provides essential fatty acids. Pumpkin is a rich source of enzymes that mimic the benefit of alpha-hydroxy acids. Alpha-hydroxy acids (AHA) increase the rate of cell renewal. If you have any sensitivities to AHAs pumpkin enzymes make a great natural alternative. The result is clarification and brightening. It smooths the skin texture, evens skin tone due to variation from scarring/hyperpigmentation and speeds the cellular turnover which is essential for healthy skin.
Glycolic acid improves the appearance and texture of the skin and is derived from sugar cane. It may reduce wrinkles, acne scarring, hyperpigmentation and improve many other skin conditions, including actinic keratosis, hyperkeratosis, and seborrheic keratosis. It is a smaller molecule than Lactic Acid and can penetrate further but also has the ability to carry moisture. Glycolic acid reacts with the upper layer of the epidermis, weakening the binding properties of the lipids that hold the dead skin cells together. This removes dead skin cells and exposes the live skin cells. Please use an SPF product after use.
Cinnamon is included for its tonic and antiseptic properties as well as the great scent! It increases blood flow to the skin.
Ginger, in addition to the tonic and antiseptic properties, is an anti-inflammatory.
Allspice contains eugenol. Eugenol when applied to the skin acts as a vasodilator, opening the vessels. Allspice also contains tannins, which give it mild anesthetic properties.
Studies indicate that Nutmeg has been shown to lighten the skin based on the ability to inhibit tyrosinase activity. Tyrosinase is an enzyme present in tissue and plants that catalyzes the production of melanin and other pigments from tyrosine by oxidation.
Rosemary extract is great for wound healing because of antiseptic, antibacterial and antimicrobial properties. In addition to the tonic and astringent qualities it also increases blood circulation.
Neem Oil relieves dry skin. It soothes itchiness, redness and irritation. It improves general skin health and immunity, combating bacterial infections.
